It means: You don't have to knock before you go in.

It means: You needn't wear evening dress, but you can if you like.
7. We might see it in a library, waiting room, etc.
It means: You mustn't make any noise.
8. We might see it in the antique shops.
It means: You can come in and look at the things if you really want something you can buy it.
9. We might see it in a bus.
It means: You must have the correct money.
10. We might see it in a public bus.
It means: You aren't allowed to go out that way except in an emergency.
11. We might see it an envelope. It means: You don't have to put a stamp on it, because the postage has been paid already.
